A team of multi-agency officials on Friday arrested three prison warders for allegedly ferrying Somali nationals to Nairobi illegally.
Police said that the officers were found illegally transporting eight Somali nationals to Nairobi.
The foreigners comprised of two adults and six juveniles. The arrested individuals are Sergeant Simon Kyalo Mwendwa, Corporal Ibrahim Adow and Constable Abdlulahi Ali Hassan.
The trio was busted at Mutwang’ombe after the detectives launched a crackdown along the busy Mwingi -Garissa highway.
Police said that none of the foreigners carried his identification documents and the warders could not even explain why they were ferrying them to Nairobi when they were busted by the team of detectives.
Commissioner-General of Prisons Wycliff Ogallo had warned the officers against engaging in criminal acts before they were busted.
He made the remarks through a memo dated December 31, 2019 when he urged them to remain disciplined in everything they undertake.
“It has been observed more lately that our staff are getting more and more engaged in unbecoming conduct and behaviour,” the commissioner noted.
He also said that the officers engaging in such acts are spoiling the name of the prison.
