One of ODM's aspirant for the Kibra by-election, Peter Orero has denied being ODM leader Raila Odinga's chosen candidate.
Orero, who has been a teacher in Kibra since 1990 denied the allegation stating that it is only the Kibra people that will choose their preferred candidate.
“The preference must be coming from the people. It is not about Raila. We have not talked with Raila on this at any given moment. I have so far campaigned a lot on the ground and my manifesto will resonate well with their aspirations,” he said as quoted by Standard.
“My teaching practice was in Upper Hill School before I was posted to Kamukunji High," he added as quoted by Standard.
Orero who resigned from his teaching job to concentrate on politics taught in a number of schools in Kibra.
He taught in Kamukunji, Upper Hill, Lang’ata and Dagoretti, where he resigned from to join politics.
"In Lang’ata, we gave a lot of bursaries to students and had a lot of programmes," he said. Asked if he was pushed into politics, he said: “No one pushed me into politics," he told Standard.
While still teaching, Orero revealed that he got involved in a number of elective posts.
He held the position of executive member, vice-chairman then chairman of the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) in Nairobi.
He also held the position of KSSSA as the national chairman and also the treasurer of the Kenya Basketball Association for 10 years.
Orero revealed that the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth was his close friend, who set up various projects at schools he was teaching.
He also pointed out the Jubilee's candidate McDonald Mariga was his student at Kamukunji High.
“He’s a footballer. I was his football coach. I am the one who mentored Mariga to where he is,” he said as quoted by Standard.
