There was drama at the headquarters of the Kenya National Union of Teachers in Nairobi after teachers stormed the offices following a standoff with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
Some of the members of the giant teachers' body had arrived at the offices to address the issue of embattled Secretary-General Wilson Sossion on Thursday morning.
The members stormed the office despite a directive from Court on Wednesday.
Police were compelled to intervene in the matter.
Efforts of the members to kick out Sossion proved futile after police swung into action. It remains unclear whether the KNUT boss was present at the office when the incident took place.
The police restrained the members from entering the offices when they arrived at around 9 am.
Sossion has maintained that he will not leave office no matter the pressure mounted on him. He has affirmed that he holds office legally.
The KNUT boss has also blamed outsiders for stage-managing his ouster from office.
“No employer can choose leaders for a trade union because that will be the beginning of the death of that particular union and the labor movement. So fundamentally what’s happening is an attack on the trade union movement which is wrong,” Sossion was quoted by Capital FM.
