With opposition leader Raila Odinga on his side and in-fighting rocking the ruling Jubilee Party, the next few months if not years will shape up the country's political landscape. But curiously, President Kenyatta's moves continue to be clouded in mystery.

However, the most recent statement by former Jubilee Party deputy chairman David Murathe's statement on 2022 perhaps can give a hint on Uhuru's next political move.

According to the outspoken Murathe who resigned from his position early this year, the President will not just be leaving politics in 2022 even as he hinted at the possibility of him settling for Prime Minister position. However, Uhuru himself has not come out to confirm or deny such claims.

Is President Kenyatta using Murathe, his close associate, to test the waters before coming out to declare his real political stand ahead of the 2022 election? Is it that the President fears backlash if he states his political position before the right time comes?

There is no doubt that Murathe, the former Gatanga MP's declaration on Uhuru's political future will elicit mixed reactions from within his own party and opposition in general.

Earlier, COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli had made his statement known: "Uhuru is too young to retire". Just recently, former Cabinet Minister Noah Wekesa echoed Atwoli's statement.

With Murathe just giving a clue of what to expect in 2022 and Uhuru remaining silent on the subject, guesswork and speculations will continue surrounding the subject.

In the meantime, Uhuru and his new political lover Raila Odinga will go into 2020 with BBI to drive the handshake agenda.  And as always, the President will keep off 2022 politics, at least for now. Maybe once in a while, Murathe will be "speaking" for Uhuru.
