A Nyamira man living in Kapseret is yet to come to terms following dumping of a casket outside his home in the outskirts of Kapseret town.
Mr Meshack Nyambati woke up on Monday morning only to be subjected to shock in his own home, a move that caused anxiety and suspicions.
According to the middle aged man, he found the casket and decided to call neighbours for thorough search to ascertain the contents.
To his surprise, he said, they recovered a dead snake, a squirrel and an envelope, whose contents are yet to be retrieved due to superstition.
"I was shocked to find a casket in my doorstep. I had to alert neighbours. We recovered a dead snake, a dead squirrel and an envelope," he said in an interview.
The incident was booked at Kiambaa Police Station, with the authorities yet to give the way forward given the bizarre incident, not synonymous in the region.
"UASIN-GISHU COUNTY, KAPSERET SUB-COUNTY, KIAMBAA POLICE STATION: INCIDENT REPORTRef.OB. 11/ 12/8/2019 at 0830hrs. It occurred today on 12th August, 2019 at unknown time within Outspan area about 1kilometres East of the station. It was reported by one Meshack Nyambati of Tel no.0727XXXX29 a resident of Outspan area.That today at around 0630hrs he woke up and upon opening his door he found a small coffin outside.
"The coffin containing a dead snake,an empty envelope and a dead squarrel . Police visited the scene,the coffin removed for neccessary police action.investigation in progress. Case P.U.I," read the OB.
Elder Nyakundi Makana of Gesima, Nyamira, says such incidents are not common but they are strongly associated with witchcraft. According to him, the house needs cleansing to avoid catastrophes in future.
"You cannot say that someone wanted to scare the owner of the house. It's a basis of bad omen which should be cleansed. This indicates that someone is giving him a strong warning," he said.
