Here are three tips on how to avoid purchasing fake olive oil.

1. Look for a "harvest date" and an estate or mill name

When buying olive oil, always consider checking the harvesting date and the mill name. This is something that a good number of people assume not knowing how important it means when securing yourself from purchasing fake olive oil. If the harvesting date is past 18 months, avoid that oil as it won’t serve you well.

2. Don't fall for fancy packaging and a high price tag.

Fancy packaging is a form of attracting customers, don’t be fooled by it. Always stick to the known and certified brands.

3. Trust your senses

Your senses also play a major role in identifying fake olive oil. Good olive oil has qualities such as; smells and tastes green and it is also bright, peppery and earthy. If it smells or tastes bad, it is probably fake.
