Kiambu Woman Rep Gathoni Wamuchomba shared her perspective on the prevalence of drug addiction.

Speaking in Kagumo on Sunday during a church service, the outspoken woman rep called on the government to allocate funds in the budget to combat drug addiction and abuse in schools.

"Natumai ya kwamba serikali kupitia Ministry of Education will also consider to come up with a budget that can assist that campaign in our schools, " Gathoni Wamuchomba said.

The former radio journalist warned that drug abuse in primary schools was being overlooked to the detriment of school-going children.

She claimed that the menace was being fueled by an entrenched culture of corruption and impunity that was seeing drug traffickers let off the hook by bribing their escape from justice.

Wamuchomba also appealed to Christian parents to play a part in the campaign to combat the addiction to and abuse of drugs in schools.

Fighting the scourge of drug abuse and addiction has been one of the woman rep's campaigns and has seen hundreds of youths undergo rehabilitation.

Her words came in the wake of a chilling government report on the prevalence of drug abuse in the country that revealed that primary school children were dabbling in drug abuse.
