Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has dismissed claims that the government is using excessive force to evict persons living in Mau Forest.
In an interview with Citizen TV on Monday, Olekina said that the government has followed the right path in the eviction of the residents of the area.
"Govt has been consistent on ensuring people get out of the Mau. No one has been forcefully evicted…I hope that we will now save the Masai Mara ecosystem…Those who keep saying that their people’s rights are being violated are hypocrites," the Senator was quoted in a Citizen TV tweet.
Meru Senator Mithika Linturi also backed the government on the issue of the eviction of residents of the forest. He argued that the forest must be conserved by all means to protect the environment.
"I am firm believer in the preservation of the environment. Any land that is for public good should be preserved. If gov't issued a title to anyone for public land, that was negligence and we expect some one to be prosecuted," Linturi said.
ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna who spoke on the same platform said that there is no one who deserves compensation for grabbing public land.
"There is nothing like a genuine title for land that was not available for allocation. I am happy that we are conserving the Mau and will no longer use it as a tool for 2022," Sifuna said as tweeted by Citizen TV.
