Harambee Stars Captain Victor Wanyama on Wednesday night featured for his English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspurs for the first time since Jose Mourinho was appointed manager on November 20.
Wanyama was in the mix as his team lost 3-1 to hosts Bayern Munich in Champions League’s Group B match staged at the Allianz Arena stadium in Munich, Germany.
Both teams qualified to the round of 16, with Bayern topping the group with 18 points as Spurs finished second with 10 points. Victor Wanyama featured for the very first time under Mourinho, replacing Englishman Eric Dier in the 81st minute.
Players such as Juan Foyth, Kyle Walker-Peters, Giovani Lo Celso, Ryan Sessegnon and Christian Eriksen started a match for the first time under the Portuguese’ stewardship.
After the match, he said he is now armed with a lot of information about some of the players who played under him for the first time, among them Wanyama.
“So, no conclusions, just information. That is very important for me because some of the players played their first minutes for me, some of the players, for example, Juan Foyth, it was the first time he played and it’s important for me to collect information, information that you usually collect during the season, during pre-season,” said the Manager as quoted by Spurs official website.
The former Manchester United tactician said the information will help him in making decisions about his players.
“I would prefer a better result, obviously, I would prefer even a 3-2 defeat with a Son goal in the last minute, but that’s what it is and I’m happy with the information that I take back. I take lots of information about players that are going to influence my decisions in the future,” he added.
Spurs will resume league action against Wolves on Sunday, with Wanyama hoping to get more game time to impress his new manager.
