Kenya Defense Forces troops extended onslaught against Al-Shabaab militants on Thursday, arresting another most wanted terrorist.
Early this week, security troops mainly from KDF and SNA, arrested yet another Al-Shabaab operative in Modadishu. This is after killing of a man believed to have been coordinating attack in the region.
"Security agents have tonight captured an Al-Shabaab operative in Yaqshid district of Mogadishu following an operation. The individual has not been identified yet but a source says he is an important figure of Al-Shabaab operations in Mogadishu," reports indicated.
On Thursday morning, the KDF team manning Sector 6 also arrested a man believed to have waged last month's attack at Kismayo that saw 26 people dying.
And the latest incident, reports indicate, a member of Al-Shabaab media team, who is believed to be taking strategic operation in covering media relations, was arrested.
"A member of Al-Shabaab media department has been arrested in Mogadishu’s Hawlwadag district, the National Intelligence & Security Agency (NISA) has reported," said Harun Maruf.
Recently, members of security forces in Somalia, have raised concerns that MPs could be harboring purported Al-Shabaab defectors, who end up spying for the militants.
The development comes amid elevation of KDF ally, General Yusuf Rageh, who was made Army Commander last week by President Mohammed Farmaajo.
Usually, when Al-Shabaab militants are captured, they are taken to prisons for interrogation. Those who defect, are successfully integrated to the community.
