An Administration Police officer was on Tuesday arrested in possession of narcotics and is set to be arraigned at Keroka Law Courts on Wednesday.
Corporal Evans Orecha was arrested by community policing officers commonly referred to as Nyumba Kumi officials at Masimba area in Masaba South.
At the time of arrest, eight rolls of marijuana and 20 litres of illicit brew were recovered and surrendered at Ramasha Police Station.
In the OB recorded at the station, a motorbike rider who was ferrying the officer managed to escape but police officers are on high alert to apprehend him.
The officer works in Masaba North in Nyamira County but his work station could not be immediately revealed by County Commissioner Amos Mariba.
"Evans Orecha a police officer based in Masaba North sub county was arrested by members of community policing from both Masaba North and South after acting on information that he was dealing in narcotic drugs.
"They recovered from him 8 rolls of cannabis. A motor cycle rider who had dropped the suspect escaped with the motor cycle in the process.Also recovered was chang"aa in a 20 litre jerrycan .accused in custody and to appear in court tomorrow," read the statement.
His arrest comes at the time provincial administration team has launched a crack down targeting illicit brewers in Nyamira and Kisii following an order by Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i.
Further, it's not the first time police officers are linked to unlawful acts across the country. Last week, a police officer was arrested in Kisii in connection with the loss of Sh72 million from Standard Chartered Bank.
