Nominated senator Falhada Iman, who hails from Garissa County, has weighed in on the Building Bridges Initiative.
Speaking in Nandi County during an Inua Mama event on Saturday, the outspoken legislator gave her reasons why she was not supporting the initiative.
Falhada Iman said the initiative did not take care of the interests of pastoralists in the country, and those of women.
"Let me talk about BBI, I am a woman, I am a pastoralist. If BBI does not have interests of women and pastoralists, it will fail. (Wacha niongee juu ya BBI. Mimi ni mwanamke, mimi ni mfugaji kama nyinyi. BBI kama haina lengo la wanawake chini, kama haina lengo la wafugaji kama mimi chini inaitwa Bad Blood Initiative. I will call it Bad Blood initiative," the nominated senator said. (1:46:47-1:47:09)
The contents of BBI are not yet known as the report has not been officially handed over to President Uhuru Kenyatta, and veteran opposition and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga.
The committee members compiling the report have said everything is done, and the report is ready to be submitted to the president.
In a meeting with leaders hailing from Mount Kenya region, President Kenyatta urged Kenyans and their leaders to exercise patience with regard to the BBI.
While some see it as a chance for Kenya to have a clean break with its tense political past, others see it as a cynical attempt to reward individuals with positions of leadership and power.
