This comes days after National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, another Ruto ally, declared support for the push, proposing a return to the parliamentary governance system.

Speaking on Saturday, Maangi said that he is also fully behind the President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga founded Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

He stated that should the BBI taskforce propose a switch to the parliamentary system from the current presidential, he will back, it, despite opposition from Ruto's camp.

He said that though he has been walking in the company of the DP lately, he is with Raila in this one.

"There is the narrative that those associated with DP Ruto are anti-BBI. No. On the presidential versus parliamentary system, I support Mr Odinga’s proposition for a parliamentary system 100 percent,” he told the Nation.

He argued that under the parliamentary system, it is possible for minority communities like his Gusii group to land an executive seat.

Maangi added that the presidential system has also been the cause behind the recurrent post election wrangles after each poll season.

According to Maangi, who also declared his full support for the Uhuru-Raila handshake that gave rose to the BBI, it will be easier for powerful persons from minority communities to land top slots under the parliamentary system.

“The entire Abagusii only have about 1.4 million voters, which is not enough to produce a President in the current constitutional dispensation. But in a parliamentary system, a strong person such as Mr Matiang’i (Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i) may persuade MPs to vote him for premiership," he added.

He said that the Mt Kenya politicians who are opposed to the parliamentary system are simply doing it because they have the numerical muscles in terms of votes.

A good number of politicians have dismissed both the handshake, BBI and the looming amendments.
