The nomination of Ms Mwende Mwinzi as Kenya’s envoy to Seoul, South Korea still hangs in balance after Members of Parliament asked the National Assembly to reject her.
This is after Mwende refused to renounce her American Citizenship are required by the law. The Departmental Committee on Defence and Foreign Relations have said that the nominee risks losing the slot if she remains adamant on the renunciation of the nominee.
The Kajiado South MP Katoo ole Metito-chaired committee has put the envoy on spot to renounce the same or they seek for another alternative in the same capacity.
Mwende had been fronted by MPs in the House on June 6, 2019 but he is yet to assume her position on the same. The committee said that it has examined the whole matter and it is convinced that he should renounce the same failure to which they would make recommendations.
“Having scrutinised the report of the Departmental Committee on Defence and Foreign Relations, the House rescinds its resolution, which approved the nomination of Ms Mwinzi for appointment as an ambassador to Seoul, South Korea,” the committee recommends in its report, as quoted by Daily Nation.
The committee had approved the nomination expected Mwende who happened to be an American citizen as well. The demand for her renunciation has not augured well with some groups
