Ford-Kenya Secretary-General Eseli Simiyu has dismissed claims that the upcoming Kibra parliamentary by-election will mark the end of the National Super Alliance (NASA).
The opposition coalition was formed when four leading politicians came together ahead of the 2017 polls in an attempt to wrestle power from the ruling Jubilee Party.
They are; Raila Odinga (ODM), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and Moses Wetangula of Ford-Kenya.
ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna on Wednesday accused ANC and Ford-Kenya of being 'enemies' after they fielded candidates in Kibra, a perceived Raila's political bedrock.
"We have always known ANC and Ford Kenya to be our enemies. They are leeches, parasites and we have carried them on our backs like ticks all this time. NASA is going to be buried in Kibra," he said during KTN's Point Blank Show.
In a quick rejoinder, Simiyu rubbished Sifuna's remarks claiming ODM was using the Kibra contest as a scapegoat to deny its partners in NASA their share of cash from the Political Parties Fund.
“ODM is the problem in the coalition. But I understand where they are coming from. They want to cut links with the other partners so that they don’t demand their share of the political parties funding," he said.
Simiyu, the Tongaren MP, further accused the Raila-led outfit of doublespeak saying it should not complain about Kibra when it contested in Embakasi South, a perceived Wiper zone.
He added that ODM has no capacity to dissolve NASA and can only bolt out of the coalition if they were no longer interested to work with other affiliate parties.
“When they fielded a candidate in Embakasi, why didn’t the other partners threaten to leave? They should be reminded that they don’t have powers or the capacity to dissolve NASA. The coalition instruments are very clear. They can only walk out," Simiyu said.
