Manyatta B Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Pamela Odhiambo has assured residents that improving drainage systems in the ward is part of her numerous plans this financial year.

She said that like most residents, water flows into her house whenever it rains heavily in Manyatta B.

“The roads that were constructed, they did not put drainage systems in place. When we have a lot of rain, water runs into people’s houses including my house,” she told Hivisasa in a phone interview over the weekend.

“The plan of improving the drainage system is already there. We are just waiting for the County government to roll out the exercise. Everything is okay we had passed the budget so we are waiting for them to do their part. We will deal with this challenge once and for all,” she assured.

Last week, a section of Manyatta B residents expressed concern over the deplorable conditions they are living in as heavy rains continue to pound the area.

On most occasions, rain waters normally flow into their houses making them inhabitable as it has been the case over the last few days. Roads become impassable with parents being forced to carry their kids to and from school whenever it rains.

The affected areas are swampy, which means any amount of rainfall leads to water overflowing into the informal settlements. Residents blamed all this on the lack of an effective drainage system in the area.

“The major problem here in Koyango is lack of a proper drainage system. We need a culvert here so that when water comes it can flow downwards. This will in turn prevent water from overflowing into our houses,” said George Ageng’o, a resident of Koyango.
