Eliud Kipchoge's historic achievement of becoming the first man to run a full marathon in less than 2 hours during the INEOS 1:59 Challenge has reminded Kenyans of the late Kenyan athlete Samuel Wanjiru.
While celebrating Kipchoge's historic achievement in Vienna, Austria, a section of Kenyans on Twitter reflected on Wanjiru's achievements as a young athlete back in his hey-days before his tragic death on 5th May 2011.
Some Twitter users claimed that Wanjiru may have been the only other Kenyan athlete with the ability and skills that could have been matched to those of Kipchoge.
They nonetheless pointed out that the difference between the two athletes was discipline and humility.
Back in his days as a star athlete, Wanjiru had been involved in several scandals that revolved around alcohol and women.
The cyber citizens warned Kenyan athletes against being indiscipline citing that they should learn from Wanjiru's story.
The netizens celebrated the achievements of the late athlete including when he flew the Kenyan flag high after he became the first Kenyan to win an Olympic marathon gold at the 2008 Olympics games in Beijing, China.
Some of the netizens admitted that they could not help but remember Wanjiru while they were watching the INEOS 1:59 Challenge.
The athlete died after he allegedly fell off from a balcony of his house.
