In an interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday, Duale said that the opposition leaders should have been given the powers in both the National Assembly and the Senate.

He also divulged that the power could have made it easier for him to serve the nation in both houses. The Garissa lawmaker said that the push for a referendum is a good idea if only will include the element of inclusivity.

“The leader of Opposition should have been given the status and resources that are equivalent to him in the National Assembly and the Senate where he can rally his troops and hold the government to account. The 2010 constitution lacks that,” he said.

He also affirmed that he will stand with Deputy President William Ruto until he ascends to power. He noted that the second in command has what it takes to rise to power when that time comes.

Duale further said that he is ready to retire from the political scene if the DP becomes the commander in chief of the armed forces come 2022. At some point, he faulted media houses for spreading propaganda about his relationship with DP Ruto.
