Police officials in Tana Rover county have lifted the lid on alleged ongoing smuggling of foreigners into the county ahead of the August 24 census drive.
According to the law enforcers, the suspects, apparently, politicians, are bringing in Ethiopian and Somali nationals into the county with the intention of inflating population numbers.
According to County Police boss Frederick Ochieng', the aliens are being flown into villages through the Bura Sub County, blaming it onward representatives and MPs.
'We have intelligence report of some people planning to smuggle foreigners of mostly Somalia and Ethiopian origin to increase the population of people in their respective wards and constituencies,” he told the Nation in an interview on Friday.
He added that six male adults have since managed to penetrate into the county, whose two constituencies of Galole and Bura, could be merged due to small populations.
This is in line with the law that a constituency should have a minimum of 133,138 people.
This comes only a day after Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi warned against the same, with the police boss now calling upon locals to be vigilant to prevent more intrusion.
Ochieng added that his officers are searching for more aliens.
