Kenyans on social media have come out to express mixed reactions after the government proposed a Bill that will deny Kenyans without Huduma Namba access to crucial public service.

If the proposed Bill is passed into law, Kenyans who did not register for Huduma Namba will; not register certificates for marriages, not operate back accounts, not register phone numbers, not access public healthcare, not access a passport, not register as a voter among other fundamental activities and requirements of a citizen.

Majority of Kenyans have disagreed with the proposed Bill claiming the move was only meant to frustrate citizens.

Some argued that Huduma Namba did not have any significance as the government was portraying it, citing that the existing national documents like passports, National Identity cards, birth certificates among others perform the same functions as those of Huduma Namba.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, however, on Wednesday called for public participation and expression of views on the proposed bill at The Kenya School of Government in Nairobi.
