Nairobi's first African Mayor Charles Rubia who passed away on December 22 may have predicted his death a year before it happened.
This is according to his firstborn son Michael who revealed that Rubia had prepared his family to celebrate the Christmas of 2019 without him.
On Christmas Day of 2018, Rubia is alleged to have warned his family that he may no longer join them for Christmas celebrations, and true to his word, he passed away three days to the Christmas of 2019.
“My time is up. You are now big people with families. This is the last family Christmas we are having in my home in Karen. From today onwards, prepare for your Christmas without me,” Michael quoted his father during an interview with KTN.
During his last moments, Rubia is reported to have claimed to miss his late wife.
“Dad met with my brother Maurice last month for lunch and told him he was missing our mother, but didn’t know the reason,” Michael noted.
According to Rubia's son, the late freedom fighter would always warn them before significant events took place.
Before his arrest in 1991, Rubia prepared his sons for the hard time that would come while he was in prison.
Rubia is reported to have fought for multi partyism and democracy alongside other freedom fighters such as Matiba, Masinde Muliro, Martin Shikuku, Njeru Gathangu, and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.
Rubia is expected to be buried today in in Karigoini in Murang’a County.
