Writing on Twitter on Thursday, the outspoken legislator said that leaders of Vihiga County had been mobilised to attend the meeting.

"Held a strategy meeting at Chavakali, for mobilization of the leadership of Vihiga County for purposes of attendance of the Mumias Western Leaders Forum on 18/01/20. BOSI KHWITSANGA!" the former legislator wrote.

His words come amid building anticipation for another meeting in western Kenya at the Bukhungu stadium to be graced by former prime minister Raila Odinga.

Police had issued the conveners of the Mumias meeting with a cancellation notice, saying that the meeting had been cancelled over serious security fears.

The notice warned that those who went against the order not to convene the Mumias meeting would be dealt with according to the law.

Khalwale had yesterday vowed to go on with the meeting in spite of the cancellation notice from law enforcement authorities.

The Mumias meeting is seen as an attempt by leaders opposed to the Bukhungu meeting to flex muscles and to show that they command support in Western.

Mudavadi and Wetangula expressed concerns that the Bukhungu was aimed at endorsing a presidential candidate for 2022.
