Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna and Narok Senator Olekina Ledama have defended embattled former National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich against reports that he's to blame for the collapse of the country's economy.
In an interview on Citizen TV on Monday, the duo said that it does not make sense to blame Rotich over the failure of the Jubilee regime.
They argued that the entire Cabinet has to take responsibility for the unfulfilled promises of the government. The two leaders also argued that the former CS was only executing the desires of the Jubilee administration under the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"I think it is unfair to blame Henry Rotich for collapse of the economy, but leadership is important...We have to have an honest conversation, that the projects for which we borrowed have not had a major impact in the economy," Sifuna said.
Ledama said that he is confident Rotich did what he was asked to do by the Jubilee administration. He argued that the entire Jubilee government has proven that is it incompetent and full of empty promises. He further alluded that Rotich was only a victim of circumstances.
"I think Henry Rotich delivered that which Jubilee wanted delivered. There is no way that we can squarely blame one individual. I think the Cabinet should entirely shoulder the blame," he said.
