The DPP on Wednesday ordered the arrest of Mrs Karanja and her husband Joseph Karanja over alleged tax evasion, which is an economic crime.

According to Haji, KRA Commissioner-General Gathii Mburu had justified why the two should be charged over Sh14.5 billion tax fraud.

“Therefore, having independently reviewed the file and applying the provision of the National Prosecution policy, I am satisfied that there is sufficient evidence and that it is in the public interest to charge the suspects,” he stated. “Accordingly, I direct that the directors be arraigned in court.”

But in her response, Mrs Karanja accused the DPP of misusing his powers, insisting that she has never been investigated by authorities or asked to clarify issues.

She said that she only learnt about the summons on social media, insisting that she has no plans to comply with the orders from DPP any soon.

“I will not present myself to police because the documents I have received are through social media. Even for me I do not believe that they are real," she said.

"I feel I am being unfairly targeted. I have done my job for 22 years, paying taxes and creating jobs," added Mrs Karanja.

The entrepreneur accused rivals in the business of making her life hard, adding that she's used to such business rivalries.
