Embattled Meru Senator has found himself in more trouble after revelations that he might have played a role in a bank robbery in Makutano seven years ago.
This is after monies from the Sh13.5 million heist from the Co-operative Bank was traced to his account, another blow to the lawmaker already involved in a scandalous divorce case.
The blame would later land on Wilson Wanjohi, Muriungi Mithika and Harriet Kanorio, taken from an ATM in the bank's computer room.
What puzzles detectives is how Muriungi, whom the Senator says campaigned for him in 2007, deposited Sh8.6 million of the stolen money in the senator's bank account.
Confronted on the issue by detectives from the DCI, Linturi denied claims that stolen money found its way back into his account in the same bank.
“I vehemently deny the allegation as there is no one that had deposited any money in my account apart from myself, neither had he (Mr Mithika) given me any cash to deposit or keep for him," he told the sleuths.
Muriungi was acquitted by Chief Magistrate H.N Ndungu on December 3, 2018, while the others were convicted and ordered to pay Sh1 million fine or serve a 15-month jail term.
Both have since been released.
The DCI also says that the Meru Senator stood in as surety for Muriungi and placed his piece of land to secure his release before he was found innocent.
