Political analyst Mwangi Njui has said President Uhuru Kenyatta's Friday meeting with Mt Kenya politicians was a political tact to restore his honour, and respect in the eyes of Kenyans.

According to Njui, Uhuru realised he is running irrelevant, especially to Kenyans from other regions, given that his own backyard appears divided, and moved in to clean it.

He said the meeting was aimed at whipping the group into following a specific direction, at a time when it appears divided.

"The president realised that the important thing is to finish the Kieleweke and Tangatanga factions in his own backyard before going to other parts of Kenya. (Rais aliona cha muhimu ni kumaliza Kieleweke na Tangatanga za nyumbani kwake kabla ya kuenda sehemu zingine za nchi)," he said on Saturday evening.

The Nakuru-based commentator made the remarks on Nakuru's Sauti Ya Mwananchi radio's Cheche show.

He said it would have been embarrassing for Uhuru to preach unity to the nation, yet his own backyard is chocking in division and infighting.

"Since we got Kieleweke and Tangatanga there have been verbal exchanges, disrespect and discussion of matters off our political issues  (Tangu tulipopata Kieleweke na Tangatanga, kumekuwa na cheche za maneno, kukoseana heshima na kuongea mambo yaliyo mbali na siasa za nchini)," he added.
