In a press conference, Kuria said that he had already made a choice before the election, adding that he would stand ODM's Imran Okoth. Kuria said that he had nothing against Mariga but he will not back his candidature.

"I will not support Mariga because I had a preferred candidate. I already finished my work with the people of Kibra," he said on Thursday.

The announcement by the lawmaker came moments after Nominated MP Maina Kamanda said that he will support Imran for the seat.

Kamanda made the remarks when he met ODM leader Raila  Odinga at his Capitol Hill Offices in Nairobi.

The lawmaker, however, said that the endorsement is his personal decision and not that of the party.

“I am here in my personal capacity...The Handshake brought us harmony and peace in the country.. As Jubilee we have a candidate but as a person, I will be with the ODM candidate…I am here to stand with the candidate nominated by ODM Imran Okoth” the MP said.
