Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura has declared his support for constitutional changes expected to come through the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
Speaking on Radio Jambo, Saturday, the lawmaker said that he would personally like to see a number of changes in the constitution, which he believes will better the affairs.
The legislator said that among others, he would like to see the elevation of the senate to become the upper house and the national assembly reduced to the lower house.
"We must be radical, let the senate be the upper house, let's look into resource allocation and funds be shared in a good way. (Lazima tuwe radical, kama ni Senate iwe upper house, tuangalie rasilmali na pesa igawanwe kisawasawa)," he said.
Mwaura also proposed the formation of a powerful Prime Minister, technically suggesting that the BBI report be amended to empower its Prime Minister suggestion.
He suggested that the seat be handed to an individual from the Mt Kenya region once the implementations are made.
"Kama Central Kenya tuko na kura zaidi ya 6 million na haiwezi badilishwa na kiti ya Prime Minister asiye na nguvu. Hatuwezi sema suluhisho ya shida zetu ni kiti ya waziri mkuu asiye na nguvu yoyote," he added.
This translates to: "As Central Kenya, we have over 6 million votes which cannot be exchanged with a powerless Prime Minister seat. We cannot say the solution to our problems is a powerless Prime Minister," he opined.
In the current report, released late last year, the BBI taskforce proposes the formation of a powerless Prime Minister seat, whose holder will be appointed by the president.
