Siaya Senator James Orengo was the lead lawyer who delivered victory to Raila Odinga in the Supreme Court petition, which sought to invalidate the presidential election result. Here are five things you may not have been aware about the seasoned politician:
1. He was first elected as MP (Ugenya) to the National Assembly in 1980.
2. While at Alliance High School, he was suspended on many occasions for giving prefects a hard time. He often resisted attempts to have his life over-regulated.
3. In 1974, he handed Tanzanian President Julius Nyerere Sh200,000 to support South Africa in their quest for independence.
4. In the 1980s, he fled to Uganda, Zimbabwe and Tanzania to escape the repressive KANU regime under President Daniel Arap Moi.
5. His favourite football team is Real Madrid. In 2015, he travelled to Spain to watch the El Classico — match between Real Madrid and Barcelona. In the Premier League, he supports Arsenal, just like Raila Odinga.
