Kenya’s Aden Marwa will this year be among the referees at the Russia World Cup.
Marwa was named among the match officials for the event that is set to kick off from June 14 to July 15.
He will serve as an assistant referee in what will be another high profile outing for the official after the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN), where he served among the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
Many only know him as a no-nonsense official, even though there is a lot to know about Kenya's most respected match official.
Here are some facts;
1. He is the first Kenyan football official to be involved in any FIFA competition
2. Apart from being a referee, he is also a secondary school teacher at Kamotobo Secondary school in Migori.
3. His very first major international duty was an Africa Cup match in Zanzibar way back in 2000.
4. He was included as CAF’s assistant referee in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup
5. The 41-year old has served as a FIFA referee from 2011
