The Cabinet Secretary of Education Amina Mohamed was born on 5th October 1961 in Kenya. The former Cabinet Secretary for Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade was the first Kenyan woman to hold such a high rank position in the government of Kenya.

Here are five things you should know about Amina Mohamed:

1. She grew up in Kakamega CS Mohamed, a Kenyan Somali grew up in Kakamega where she attended school. She is an eight born in a family of nine children, who spent her early life in western part of Kenya. 

She schooled in Township Primary School and later Butere Girls and Highlands Academy both in Kakamega County.

2. She is a family woman Amina Mohamed become a family woman in 2002 when she got married. Her husband, Khalid Ahmed is an Ivy League trained industrialist. Together they have six children, two biological children and four orphans.

3. First worked in the Ministry of Local Government Her first job was in 1986. She was appointed as a Legal Advisor in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in charge of assessing World Bank projects and tabling municipal by-laws. 

Ever since, she has been working for the government up to date where she serves as the Cabinet Secretary for Education.

4. She was the first woman to chair WTO’s General Council The Education Cabinet Secretary was the first woman to chair the General Council of the World Trade Organization. 

More so, she was the first African woman and first woman to chair the Council for the International Organization for Migration.

5. She has several honors and awards Due to her recommendable work, she has received several state honors. Here are some of them:
