There has been talk of Jubilee MPs going to Parliament to amend election laws ahead of the October 27 presidential election.

The move has been supported by Jubilee followers but has attracted condemnation from the NASA fraternity.

But the question is, what are these laws about?

Here is a snippet preview of the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill 2017:

1. The amendments target to reduce the powers of a IEBC chair and Supreme Court on determining the fate of presidential election results.

2. They will empower the vice chair of the commission to announce the results in the absence of the chair.

3. Currently, only a lawyer by profession can chair and announce the presidential results. If Jubilee amendments go through, a person of any professional background can head the commission and announce poll results.

4. In case the chairman and the vice chair are both absent, the commissioners will elect one among themselves to chair the commission and carry duties of the chair.

5. If both the chair and vice chair are absent and commissioners have taken their positions, the quorum to transact business will be lowered from the current five commissioners to at least three.
