Five suspected thugs were over the weekend killed in separate incidents in a heated war on crime.

Police reports say that weapons were also recovered from the suspects.

In Pangani, a suspected thug was gunned down after he allegedly tried to rob a doctor of cash and other valuables.

He was with other accomplices.

The gang is said to have confronted the doctor while he drove out of his  home and tried to grab his valuables before the doctor raised the alarm that alerted police who were on patrol.

Officers pursued the gang and managed to gun down one while his accomplices escaped on foot.

In another incident, two suspects were gunned down in Kawangware, one in Starehe and another in Kayole.

In Kasarani, one police officer was shot and wounded by suspected thugs while he tried stop and arrest suspects on Friday night.

Police reports say the officer was injured in his thigh as the attackers escaped on a motorbike.

Police are still tracking them.

Last week, five other suspects were killed in Dandora, Kayole, Ngara and Embakasi.

Police reports said all the suspects were aged between 18 and 25 years.

Nairobi police boss Japheth Koome said the suspects were caught attacking and robbing innocent pedestrians when an alarm was raised to alert officers on patrol.

"Crime does not pay. Let those engaging in crime abandon it," said Mr Koome.
