Police in Thika have apprehended two persons suspected to be phone thieves and handbag snatchers in Ruiru, Juja and Thika towns.

The two are said to be accomplices to another three suspects arrested on Friday in Ruiru Town through a police and residents’ efforts.

The gang is alleged to be conducting the business and selling the mobile phones to a famous suspect and businessman in Ruiru, who is also in police custody, and who operates an electronics chop in Githurai.

Thika and Ruiru OCPDs Francis Muthami and Isaac Thuranira conducted the arrest after the residents, mostly pedestrians and businesspersons raised concerns over the rise in cases of theft recently.

Confirming the incident on Saturday at Thika Police Station, Muthamia said that police are still investigating if there are other culprits remaining to ensure they curb the menace.

He added that they have recovered over 48 mobile phones from the businessman and they will arraign them in court on Monday (today).

Members of the public who have lost their mobile phones through the same have been called on to go and identify them at the Thika and Ruiru police stations.
