United States law scholar Prof Makau Mutua has launched a scathing attack against top Jubilee Party leadership over the October 26 repeat presidential election.

Mutua said the leaders; Deputy President William Ruto, National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria misadvised President Uhuru Kenyatta to 'force' the IEBC conduct the fresh poll ordered by the Supreme Court.

In an opinion piece published by Sunday Standard, Mutua also accused Tharaka-Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki and Attorney-General Githu Muigai of leading Uhuru into making a 'blunder he may never recover from'.

"Uhuru will rue the day he decided- come rain or high water- that the IEBC had to conduct the repeat election on October 26. For him, and for Kenya, that day will live in infamy," he said.

Mutua, the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) chairperson, said Uhuru lacked people to offer him 'wise strategic advice'.

"But as they say in America, politics ain't beanbag- it's not child's play. It requires maturity, wisdom, and cold calculation. All these are absent in Jubilee," he stated.

The controversial scholar said the low voter turnout in the poll was an indication that Uhuru was rejected by Kenyans.

"He (Uhuru) gambled and lost big. He made an epic blunder from which he won't recover no matter what he does from here. His tenure at the top of the State- and his legacy- have been irredeemable. He has lost any legitimacy to govern Kenya," Mutua added.
