Five people died on Saturday early morning after an accident which occurred along Mombasa road near Salama town in Machakas county.
The accidents involved three trucks which collided head on. Two of the trucks were ferrying cigarettes from Nairobi to Mombasa while the other was ferrying clothes from Mombasa to Nairobi.
The assistant chief of Kavuko sub Location Titus Mainga confirmed the incident. Mainga addaed that the accident occurred in early morning and attributed it to over speeding..
The OCPD of Mukaa also confirmed the early morning accident and argued drivers to be very careful when driving along busy highways during this festive season.
“The accident occurred near Salama town along Nairobi Mombasa road. Three victims died on the spot while two died while been rushed to hospital. One person is been admitted at Salama general hospital with severe injuries.” Said Nyongesa.
Nyongesa blamed the accident on reckless driving and over speeding. He urged all motorists to be extra careful during this festive season.
“I blame the accident on the drivers since the road is in good condition. I urge all the drivers to avoid careless driving during this festive season in order so avoid losing innocent lives.” Said Nyongesa.
The bodies were taken to Salama general Hospital Mortuary.
