Five police officers have been killed and four others injured after an attack in Kotulo, Mandera County.
The officers are said to have been escorting passengers who had boarded a Makkah bus headed to Mandera when their car was hit by a grenade.
Governor Ali Roba has condemned the attack stating that locals had warned of a possible attack yet the police did not act on it.
The attack is suspected to have been planned by the Al-Shabaab militia group.
This is not the first time a Makkah bus is being ambushed. The first incident took place in 2014 when gunmen attacked a bus between Kotulo and Dabasiti in Mandera.
The police car that was hit was burned to ashes.
One of the officers is said to be missing and is being looked for.
