Some women experience long labour pains while others have quick births.

However, the end result is happiness when you finally get to see your newborn baby.

Below are five things no one tells you about giving birth

1. Forget about privacy

This depends on your situation but in most cases, there is nothing like privacy. In fact, a woman about to give birth should completely forget about privacy because once the contractions begin, she won't care about whoever will see her 'down there'.

2. It isn't as fast as in the movies

This also varies. However, in most cases, you will walk around, lay down, ask your husband to rub your back, watch TV and even ask for something to eat as you wait for the baby to come. It is, however, important to note that it can sometimes happen very fast so you have to be ready for everything.

3. You might tear

You might tear down there depending on the size of your baby size or the doctor might need to make a small incision to widen the vaginal opening for the baby to come out. However, this should not be a worry since you will be stitched and will heal right back.

4. The water doesn't always break

The amniotic fluid which protects the baby may not always break alone, and this may have to be done for you. For some women, the water doesn't burst at once but instead trickles down in a steady flow.

5. You might poop during labour

Some women feel the need to go to the toilet when pushing out the baby. No need to feel embarrassed as this is a normal occurrence. The same muscles used when having a bowel movement are the same muscles used when pushing out a baby. If this happens, the nurses will discreetly clean it up.
