5 vehicles have been nabbed in Kamwangi in a Monday mid-day crackdown for carrying excess passengers.

The vehicles which included 4 public vehicles and a private saloon car were nabbed in an impromptu crackdown conducted by Kamwangi traffic officers.

According to Moses Mwau the deputy traffic officer in the sub county, the drivers of the vehicles were not only carrying excess passengers but also had outdated licenses.

Mwau noted that the conductors of the public vehicles went missing after spotting the police from a far.

"We understand that it is the festive season and many people are travelling home but that should not be the reason for endangering people’s lives," he said.

Mwau noted that his department will not tolerate road misbehaviour from all road users citing that they have put enough measures to ensure road safety especially during the festive season.

He further revealed their collaboration with NTSA to fine harsh penalties to all speeding vehicles, those found without licenses and those who will be found carrying excess passengers.

"We have over 100 traffic officers in Gatundu North who will at all times be on duty to ensure road safety as people travel for Christmas," he said.
