Nairobi city, the city where life begins is probably the worst city in Kenya when it comes to crime specifically mugging. Muggers are all over the city doing their job whether daytime or nighttime, they don't care.
Although Governor Mike Sonko has installed anti-mugging crew in the city, here are some tips you can still explore to stay safe in the Nairobi streets;
1. Avoid crowds
Try as much as you can to avoid walking into crowds that are not familiar to you. The muggers take advantage of the crowds to skillfully partake their acts. There are also members of the crowds who will always have bad intentions.
2. Walk with a friend
Try walking with a friend whenever possible. You know quite well that one person is vulnerable to attack compared to numbers. Muggers find it hard to attack groups. However, this still does not guarantee you 100% safety. Try as much as you can to stay safe.
3. Don't wear earphones while walking in the streets
While you concentrate on what you are listening to in your ears, the muggers will take advantage and attack you without you knowing. You are advised to pull out the earphones from your ears while in the city so that you stay alert.
4. Learn basic self-defense skills
You should learn a few basic self-defense skills so that whenever you are attacked by the muggers you find a way to put them down and escape. It won't be really easy but you can try.
5. Do not use same route always
Following the same root will become a routine to you. It will make you comfortable once it becomes a routine to you. The muggers in Nairobi will attack you when you least expect.
