Police in Thika town have today arrested more than 50 bodaboda operators who were allegedly working without licences.
This is after Thika traffic commandant Benjamin Kiprono in partnership with the deputy county commissioner, Jeremiah Gicheru, launched a crackdown in the town after various incidents of bodaboda operators driving around without valid licences were reported.
Gicheru said they received a tip-off from a cyclist, who opted to remain anonymous, that there was a Sacco which was operating a double business with some of the cyclists have no licences of operation.
Kiandutu Youth Motorcycle was among the major Saccos that were apprehended in the probe conducted by the DCC.
One of the cyclists, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to fear of intimidation, told the press that some of them are forced to operate without licences since owning one requires a 'long process'.
