Police in Thika town are holding 50 people and 1500 liters of illicit brew after last night’s illicit brew raid done in the Hospital ward’s Majengo area.

The police and community policing officers earlier last night made the raid where they caught 6 people believed to be  the sellers and 44 consumers of ‘Changaa’ in the lower part of Chania River.

This comes after the area MCA, Mwangi Wamwangi, raised concern over the increased idlers in Majengo areas of Thika town linked to the crimes incidences that have increased rapidly.

Mwangi said that the police have been evading their responsibility of arresting the people as they drink during the day and attack people at night using the Changaa den as their hiding den.

Thika deputy OCPD, Mary Kiarie, confirming the incident said that the culprits were arrested selling, drinking or idling at the area with most of them being men while others are women.

She said that they will arraign the culprits in court on Monday as they are intend to conduct more raids over the weekend so as to arrest others in other parts of the sub-county.

The officer has called on the area residents to help the police with the investigations to identify the places affected by the brews and being used for the selling and consumption.
