The government has supplied relief food to residents of Mbomboini in Kikuyu sub-county after hunger was reported in the area.
The food is meant to support old people who have no land to till and those neglected by their relatives to die out of poverty.
The programme, initiated by Kikuyu MP Ichungwa Kimani, benefited more than 50 families within the larger Mbomboini region.
Each family was given atleast 20kg of maize which acted as a boost to the hunger stricken community.
Mzee Paul Njoroge told reporters that he has suffered out of hunger for so long.
“I have spent many sleepless nights due to lack of food,” he said.
“It’s not enough [20kg of maize] but it will feed my grandchildren for a few days, it has indeed reduced the worries.”
He said he had slept hungry for many days with no one coming to his rescue, thanking the MP for the act.
According to Ichungwa, this is the beginning of success in 2015 where the region will be supplied atleast three times annually to cater for the poor thus I call on well wishers to join hands in supporting the old people in the region.
The legislator added that plans are underway to sensitize farmers in the grassroots to be able to make use of the land they have to have high produce that will cater for many people.
The lawmaker, who was speaking on Friday at Mbomboini chiefs’ office, hailed the national government for remembering the people of Kenya who have no food.
