According to IEBC commissioners, 50% of Kenyans have trust in the current IEBC officials.
They said that this should be reason enough to be given time to prepare for the coming general elections in 2017.
On an exclusive radio interview on Wednesday morning on the Citizen radio morning breakfast show, Mohammed Halawi one of the IEBC commissioners said that 50% of Kenyans have trust in IEBC despite the rumours going round that Kenyans do not have trust in the IEBC.
Halawi said that as IEBC, they are committed to ensure a free and fair election is conducted come 2017. He noted that despite the move by the Cord leaders to have them leave office, as commissioners they are committed to work and have no plans to vacate office until the legal procedure to remove them from office is followed.
"As IEBC, we are ready to host any member of the public to come and discuss with us wherever we have messed up so as to rectify. It is the right of any Kenyan to walk into a public office to get any information he or she requires and as IEBC, we are ready to give any information,’’ said Halawi.
He added that there are plans ongoing on how the coming general elections will be done, purchase of equipment and printing of ballot papers and ballot boxes.
"IEBC does not favour any political party as this is against the law and the constitution. Cord leaders claim IEBC favours Jubilee but we wish to put it out there that this is false. IEBC is committed to sensitise the public on the importance of voter registration and voting as well to ensure a successful election in 2017. Kenyans who live abroad will also be legible to vote in the 2017 elections," he said.
