This is in line with the Interior CS Fred Matiang’i’s directive to police to destroy illicit brews and arrest the illegal dealers.

Speaking during the crackdown, Nyamira County Commissioner Isaiah Nakoru regretted that locals  have decided to frustrate the government in fighting to end making and selling of illicit brews especially chang’aa.

“Nyamira residents should accept that the government has banned making and selling of illicit brews and venture into other legal businesses to earn income.

"Anybody who will be in the wrong side of the law will not be spared. We have courts to take the offenders where they will be charged accordingly,” he said.

The county boss said chang’aa has spoilt the future of Nyamira youths and several families have broken up because most parents have ventured into chang’aa consumption thus neglecting their children.

“Most youths have dropped school to drink chang’aa. Families selling chang’aa have also broken up because parents have concentrated more on making and selling chang’aa and this has led to child negligence in Nyamira County,” he added.
