AA started the initiative with the aim of offering free training to PSV drivers who ply the Mombasa-Malaba highway route.

The association seeks to target 500 drivers, in the initiative which is geared towards reducing fatality cases occasioned by the ever increasing number of accidents.

Speaking on Wednesday during a training session, St Johns Ambulance coordinator Samwel Okello said that the programme will help the drivers attend to fatalities faster and in an effective manner.

"The initiative started this June and will run up to December, enabling drivers who ply the Mombasa-Malaba route to be trained on how to handle cases of accidents,” said Okello.

He said 70 drivers in Nairobi have already received first aid lessons.

"These trainings are significant as they would go along way in instilling disciplines and care while driving on the busy road,” said Julius Gikonyo, a bus driver who received the training.

The initiative is funded by the Association of Vehicle Operators.
