The Meteorological Department has warned that strong southerly winds are expected to hit North Eastern counties such as Garissa, Wajir, Isiolo and Mandera.

According to the Meteorological Department, strong southerly winds of more than 20 meters per second (m/s) will be experienced and are expected to last to Friday at 10 pm.

The weatherman warned that the strong winds may blow off roofs, uproot trees and cause structural damages.

Other areas on high alert include Marsabit, Samburu, Kitui, Makueni, Tana River, Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale and Taita Taveta.

“Residents in all mentioned areas are advised to be on the lookout for potential gale (very strong winds) and very large waves,” warned the weatherman.

Individuals who are near the ocean have been urged to be careful as the strong winds are likely to cause boats to capsize, lower visibility and threaten the safety of those engaging in water sports and recreational activities.

“Those in the areas of concern should be on high alert. People are urged to continue listening to local media as updates will be provided if conditions change significantly,” the Meteorological Department further warned.
