Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i on Tuesday hosted a powerful delegation from South Sudan at his Harambee House offices.
On Monday night, President Uhuru Kenyatta had hosted the same delegation which had accompanied President Salva Kiir to State House in Nairobi.
And during Tuesday's discussions, Matiang'i agreed to remove visa requirements between Kenya and South Sudan to promote smooth trade between the two nations.
"To promote unity and strengthen ties, @InteriorKE CS Dr. @FredMatiangi hosted South Sudan officials including Interior Mininster Hon. Michael Chiengjiek Geay and IG of Police Gen. Majak Akec Malok. They agreed to work towards removing visa requirements to enhance trade," Interior ministry reported.
Early this year, Uhuru elevated Matiang'i to head powerful Implementation and Communication Cabinet Committee which supervises projects.
On Monday, President Uhuru Kenyatta had also given South Sudan 10 acres of land at Naivasha for construction of Inland Depot for the landlocked nation.
“To further ease the movement of goods consigned to South Sudan, the Kenya Government has set aside 10 acres of land at the Inland Container Depot in Naivasha Industrial Park, for use as a dry port by the Government of South Sudan,” said President Uhuru when he addressed a joint press conference with President Salva Kiir.
In recent weeks, there have been calls from among Gusii leaders to have the powerful minister succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.
