Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has agreed to review the 2019/2020 county budget in a bid to end the impasse with the members of the county assembly (MCAs).

 The governor, who is serving his first term, decided to review the budget after the MCAs refused to approve the same over what they termed as massive irregularities. 

The lawmakers said that the budget doesn’t reflect the needs of the voters. Through his Communications Director Aloyce Ager, the county boss said that he is engaging the executive in the process of reviewing the budget after the raised concerns.

The Kisumu County government is scrutinising demands by the county assembly on the 2019-2020 budget with a view to ending an ensuing stalemate. 

The stalemate between the MCAs and executive had threatened to cripples the governor’s activities before he resorted to reviewing the same. The Sh.10 billion had not included both the closing balances and a list of pending bills as at June 30, 2019, leaving MCAs furious at the management of the affairs of the county. 

Led by Majority Leader Ken Onyango, the MCAs want the executive to clarify various issues in the budget for better service delivery. The lawmakers insisted that they cannot approve a budget unless they are convinced it will ensure they region grows in terms of development

 “Our focus is very clear because we want a budget that will put our county on a growth trajectory. We do not wish to be drawn into issues that are not pertinent to this budget-making process,” Majority Leader Ken Onyango said Thursday, as quoted by Daily Nation.

Ager said that the executive will present the amended budget by next week
