Police in Awendo in Migori county are investigating an incident where a waitress in one of the local eateries was found dead inside the hotel.
The lifeless body of 25-year-old Jane Auma was found lying on a matress in the hotel located in Sare Estate on Saturday morning by the hotel owner Evelyn Akinyi.
The incident shocked locals who thronged the hotel to view the body, with Ms Akinyi saying that some of her utensils were also found to he missing after she found the door open.
“When I left her on Friday evening, she was well, but I was shocked to find the door open when I reported for work. Her body was lying on a mattress on the floor,” she is quoted by the Nation.
The incident was confirmed by area OCPD Jacob Waluku who said that investigations have began, adding that the dressed appeared to have been calm during her death.
The police boss said that preliminary investigations did not show any signs of struggle and did not have any visible injuries.
“Police officers who visited the scene found the body lying on a mattress with no visible injuries. There was no sign of struggle at the scene,” he said.
The body of the deceased was moved to Rapcom Hospital Mortuary pending a pathological test, with Ms Akinyi now helping the police with investigations.
